Find the line. Arête is a trail and outdoor companion built to help you find your way out there, with data you can trust.
Who we are
Arête is a small, independent team building trail discovery, maps and navigation for people who love being outside. An arête is the sharp ridge between two valleys: the line you follow. That is the job: help you find it, know what you are walking into, and get home safe.
Where we are today
Live numbers from our own database. We start with one region and grow carefully.
Right now we cover Boulder County, Colorado. See coverage and sources for exactly what is included.
What we believe
Honest data
Every fact shows where it came from. If we don't know something, we say unknown. We don't invent ratings, difficulty or times.
Safety first
Safety information, basic navigation and trail detail are free at every level. Arête is not an emergency service, and we say so on every page.
Private by default
Your journal, saved trails, trips and photos are private unless you choose otherwise. Photos are stripped of location data before we store them.
Open data, with thanks
Trails, boundaries and points of interest come from OpenStreetMap contributors. We credit sources visibly and give back by making it easy to fix the map.
Access for everyone
We show wheelchair, stroller, dog, bike and horse access where it is mapped, and we are clear when it is not.
Humility
Maps and data can be wrong or out of date. We would rather show you the limits than hide them.
